Members Fishing Program
In 2010, as Wounded Warrior Anglers we developed our Fishing for Veterans Program aimed at providing our Disabled Veterans with a recreational fishing opportunities.
Even though the Fishing for Veterans Program originally started as a program strictly to help Disabled Veterans struggling with physical injuries, PTSD and other emotional distress a unique alternative mental health program. In 2017, the organization changed its name American Military Veterans Foundation along with enhancing our Fishing for Veterans Program to assist all Veterans, Disabled Veterans, and Auxiliary with the mission to share the healing power and serenity of fishing by providing free fishing trips, in the structured Fishing for Veterans Program run by volunteers. Our program outreach includes local Vet Centers, Veterans Affairs Healthcare Facilities, and Community-based Medical Centers.
Fishing for Veterans Program is monthly, and provided by our volunteers are individualized and designed to help Veterans, Disabled Veterans, and Auxiliary members develop a since of comradery and have fun.
Members who regularly attend Fishing for Veterans Program outings build confidence to further pursue creative self-expression and engagement within their communities.
In the future we hope some Fishing for Veterans Program participants go on to teach other members the joy of fishing.
All Fishing for Veterans Program outings are provided to the Veterans, Disabled Veterans, and Auxiliary members free of charge. Demand for the Fishing for Veterans Program continues to rise and though virtually all resources raised for this program go directly into fuel, bait & tackle, and refreshments, we sadly cannot help every qualified applicant because funding is limited.
Together, we can bring more Fishing for Veterans Program outings to our Veterans, Disabled Veterans, and Auxiliary members with donations of money, gear and related tackle. By donating $150 you can send one Veterans, Disabled Veterans, and Auxiliary through the Fishing for Veterans Program and enable us to continue sharing the healing power of alternative fishing therapy with deserving heroes locally.
